Chapter 38: The Joy of Marriage (Part 2)

Chu Jin Yao had thought that her voice was very soft, but Marquis Chang Xing still heard it. Marquis Chang Xin laughed out as he spoke, “Jin Yao has spoken correctly. I think that it is most probably the Crown Prince’s order.”

Old Furen glanced in amazement at Chu Jin Yao before quickly retrieving her gaze and asked, “Why do this? His Highness is a dignified Crown Prince. Not to mention Jin Yao, one fears that our entire residence of Marquis Chang Xing would not be qualified to enter his eyes, so why would he purposely instruct Tang GongGong to send gifts to our family?” Moreover the gifts were that valuable. Due to Chu Jin Yao’s presence, Old Chu Furen did not continue speaking. If there was no action after so long, she would have thought that the Crown Prince had the intention to marry one of their family’s young ladies.

The more Sun Momo looked at the surrounding people, the more danger she felt. How could she not be clear as to why Shan Cha was sent away? Sun Momo did not expect that Chu Jin Yao would hold onto grudges like this as she was just too daring. Shan Cha was only disrespectful in her words, and with Sun Momo fighting head-to-head with Chu Jin Yao before, how would she spare her? Sun Momo dared not harbour extravagant hopes.

When no one was paying attention, Sun Momo quietly went out and headed towards Chu Jin Miao’s courtyard.

Chapter 37: Establishing Power In The Residence (Part 2)

A few days later when Chen Xiang brought a plate of fruits in, she was accidentally bumped into by Shan Cha and the entire plate of fruits scattered all over the floor. Shan Cha was lost in thoughts and walked hurriedly, thus she did not pay attention to the oncoming person and bumped directly. After bumping into Chen Xiang, she also did not take it to heart and scolded, “You little hoof, do you not see when you walk? There are no males in the room, so what is the rush for?”

Chen Xiang already felt aggrieved after falling down, and upon hearing those words, she became angrier. However, Shan Cha did not care about it and instructed in a bad mood for Chen Xiang to tidy up as she wanted to go out. Shan Cha was used running rampant in the courtyard that she even dared to neglect Chu Jin Yao, much less a maid. Chen Xiang was so angry that her hands trembled, but she knew she was incapable of winning in a fight with Shan Cha and could only suffer in silence as she squatted down to clean the mess up. Shan Cha spoke more sarcastic words and just as she was about to leave, Gong Momo’s cold voiced sounded from behind, “Stop.”

Chu Jin Yao brought Gong Momo back to ChaoYunYuan. Sun Momo was initially standing at the doors of the courtyard, shouting arrogantly at the young maids. Upon hearing the doors opening, she immediately turned her head and spoke, “Fifth Young Lady, why are you only returning now…”

Before the sentence was finished, Sun Momo looked up and saw Gong Momo.

Chapter 36: Undeserved Fortune Flew In (Part 3)

Old Chu Furen discerned the probing intent in Chu Jin Yao’s words. With regards to the matter that Marquis Chang Xing and her planned to do, as the person involved, Chu Jin Yao, would also need to know. Thus, Old Chu Furen did not cover anything up and spoke directly, “Since ancient times, the hearts of the elders are pitiful. Us elders would be satisfied upon seeing you all living well, so how would one be concerned about your reciprocation? Take a look at your GuGu, even though everyone said that she would live her entire life well after marrying up to the Prince residence, that kind of place has a lot of rules and regulations that she is unable to return to her maiden family even after many years. I only have one daughter and do not wish for her to be very rich or noble but instead wish that she live peacefully and smoothly. Fortunately, the Prince residence would be choosing a few young ladies to stay a short while in a few days time. You can accompany your GuGu and help me watch over her. This is the greatest filial piety.”

When Chu Jin Yao heard these words, she was very surprised. Old Chu Furen meant that she wanted her to be the study companion? Marquis Chang Xing said that the last time, and it was also the same intention? Chu Jin Yao really astonished this time. She had no intention of entering the muddy waters of the Prince residence and did not expect that in the eyes of the elders, there was an entirely different plan. Chu Jin Yao was not a fool and did not mention that she did not want to go to the Prince residence at the moment and instead probed, “The matter of the study companion has to go through the Prince Consort. I fear that at that time, I would not be able to speak and will disappoint ZhuMu.”

Chapter 36: Undeserved Fortune Flew In (Part 2)

After Chu Jin Yao entered the room, she was led to the western side. There was a row of antique racks filled with incense burners, agates, corals and more. Behind the antique racks was a layer of newly changed blue yarn gauze. It was currently summer and the curtains were replaced with goose-yellow muslin. After a few more months, it would be early autumn and all these muslins would be taken down and replaced with a refreshing and breathable gauze. This smoky gauze muslin was very valuable in the market. A bolt of muslin was very light, like smoke and with the slightly green hue, it was called the smoky gauze muslin. As this muslin was light and breathable, many rich families liked to use this material for clothes so that one would not sweat during the summer. However, in the Marquis Chang Xing, the valuable muslin would be used on the windows and closets, so that the Old Ancestor would feel a little better during the summer.

This was the treatment for the Old Furen of the Marquis Chang Xing residence. Nothing would be used a second time. The gauze used on the screen windows would be changed every season, to say nothing about the beautiful fabrics all over the room. Chu Jin Yao passed the goose-yellow muslin cabinet and saw Old Chu Furen wearing a gold embroidered jacquard weave buttoned jacket with a dark purple-red top and a dark blue skirt, leaning against the couch. There were a few maids kneeling at her feet, carefully massaging her legs.

Everybody wanted to know what the chests were filled with. Qi De Sheng had already sent two chestfuls of satin to Chu Jin Yao that day, so why was there a need to gift another batch?
