Shen Miao’s heart moved and glared at the priest, who seemed to have a card up his sleeve, before taking the divination cylinder and shook it. Two divination lots fell onto the floor with a ‘pa ta’ sound.

That priest picked up the divination lots to look and Gu Yu and Jing Zhe became somewhat anxious. The priest shook his head and said, “Phoenix’s destiny trapped in a cage, life in a dangerous and hatters would spring up. Before the guillotine, the barracks are empty.” He said, “This is a great inauspicious lot.”

As soon as the words were said, Jing Zhe’s and Gu Yu’s faces changed. What great inauspicious? What guillotine? Jing Zhe said, “What a good fraud! With this mouthful of nonsense, who are you lying to? I see that you are just a liar. I will go and report to the officials.”

“Oh oh oh.” That Taoist priest said, “What is the rush? How can a young lady be that impatient? There is still one more divination lot.”

Shen Miao’s entire heart was thumping away.

Phoenix’s destiny trapped in a cage, this was saying that she was trapped in the Cold Palace of the Imperial Palace and no fruit would bear no matter how much one struggle. Created misfortune and implicated the family that the entire Shen family was executed, so wasn’t this the guillotine? Jing Zhe and Gu Yu became worried as they could not figure out why she would see the priest differently from them and even willing to let this priest to take a look at her other divination lot.

That priest smiled and picked up the other lot. He glanced at Shen Miao and as usual stroke his beard before saying slowly, “Out of the depth of misfortune comes bliss, the auspicious portent (direct translation from Chinese is Purple Cloud) comes from the East. A superior lot.”

Jing Zhe and Gu Yu initially scared that the priest would say something bad and it was near the year end now so everyone was afraid that bad fortune words would stick to oneself. Seeing that he said as such, they sighed in relief. Jing Zhe however ridiculed, “I had said that he is a fraud. One divination is great inauspicious lot and another superior lot. Just which lot is it the real one?”

“Both lots are real.” The priest said, “If you don’t believe, ask your Young Lady if this priest said correctly?”

Shen Miao’s heart moved and she said, “Jing Zhe, Gu Yu, go over to the guards first. I have something to say to the Taoist priest alone.”

Jing Zhe wanted to persuade a few more words as she felt that this priest was a swindler. However Gu Yu shook her head at her and pulled her to the side, making room for Shen Miao to speak to the Taoist priest with a peace of mind.

Shen Miao frowned as she looked at the Taoist Priest, “Does this Taoist Priest know something?”

The priest kept the divination lots and said without turning his head, “I see from Young Lady’s facial features, it is of a noble person. Then one looked at Young Lady’s assigned fated and saw that it belongs to that of a Phoenix’s destiny. One originally would be living a lifetime of glory and splendor, eating jaded food and wearing brocade. Unfortunately… One’s fate was changed.”

Shen Miao said, “What change of fate?” Her voice was somewhat hurried.

The priest’s hands stopped and he looked at her, “Young Lady’s fate is very peculiar. There would be one big calamity in one’s entire life and once this calamity has past, it would be smooth for the rest of one’s life. However in the first divination that Young Lady had drawn, one did not pass this calamity.”

“What is my calamity?” Shen Miao asked.

“One true Phoenix and one fake Phoenix. The fake Phoenix had robbed the blessing and fate of the true Phoenix. The true Phoenix was instead imprisoned.”

Shen Miao only felt that her entire heart wanted to jump out from her throat. True and fake Phoenixes, could it be said that she was the true Phoenix and as for the fake Phoenix, could it be Mei Furen? Mei Furen gave birth to Fu Sheng and Fu Xiu Yi doted on Fu Sheng that much. “This benefactor is fated with you with fate of a fierce dragon. The fierce dragon overcomes the Heavens, the imprisoned Phoneix in a cage. The person can save you and you can absolve one’s evil tendencies. If one were to encounter this person, by borrowing this person’s power, Young Lady’s fate can be returned to its original and everything that was lost would be gained.”

Shen Miao asked, “Where is this benefactor? How would I be able to find the person?”

The priest smiled, “Far in the horizon, as near as one’s sight.”

There was no need to say more. Shen Miao’s gaze flashed before she asked again, “There is still one more question. Ordinary people can only draw one divination lot so why do I draw two? Is it Heavens intention?”

She was rebirth to relive the lifetime and every time when she thought about it there was a sense or unreality. One feared that there would be a day where one would wake up and find oneself in that cold and lonely Palace and all these was just a dream she had created. Even though this eccentric priest that no one knew from where, spoke a bit accurately, perhaps he would know about this.

Today this priest had already revealed too much to Young Lady and any more would be cutting one’s blessing. Young Lady do not ask more and just remember this. The past is like a dream, avoid entanglement, out of the depth of misfortune comes bliss, the auspicious portent (direct translation from Chinese is Purple Cloud) comes from the East.”

After finishing, he took a big step and strode off singing.

Shen Miao stood still on the same spot until Jing Zhe and Gu Yu walked over. Jing Zhe said, “It’s so eccentric and one did not know where he came from. Is there no one managing this Pu Tuo Monastery?”

Shen Miao however felt that she had peeked into some secrets and unable to tell the feelings in her heart.

Just as she was thinking, Luo Xue Yan and Luo Tan walked out from inside.

Luo Tan had a small basket in her hands and in it, there were a large number of red ropes which were connected to pouches. She said with all smiles, “Youngest Biao Sister, let us go and hang the red ropes. How did you fall behind?”

Luo Xue Yan also said, “Just now one heard that there is a Grand Master that is in the Zen chambers lecturing about the Buddhist sutras and wanted to call you to listen. However one saw you being delayed for so long when I turned my head over. Now do you still want to listen to it?”

After Shen Miao heard the words from that Taoist priest, her brain became strangely chaotic so how would she have any mood to listen to monks lecturing on sutras? She then shook her head, “Not going.”

“Then let us hang the red ropes first.” Luo Tan was however very excited and dragged Shen Miao before going forward.

In the Zen chambers where Luo Xue Yan passed by just now, the action of knocking on the wooden fish by the old monk paused and the young monk asked, “Teacher, it is already passed noon. Didn’t Teacher said that the person is coming? At the end, is the person coming or not?”

Grand Master Guan Zhen stood up from the futon and shook his head, “Not coming.”

“Not coming?” The young monk was stunned, “Why?”

“Had met another person.”

The young monk was puzzled, “Why one does not come after meeting another person? Didn’t Teacher specifically wait for the person here? Aren’t the days spend waiting wasted if the person did not come?”

Shen Miao and Luo Tan walked out and reached that Tree of Cultivating Destinies.

The Tree of Cultivating Destinies was a huge sweet-scented Osmanthus tree. It was extremely thick and strong but currently one could not see clearly it’s branches and shrubs as it was all covered by the hanging red ropes and pouches.

Luo Ling and Shen Qiu did not come after all, since this was for females. Luo Tan handed Shen Miao a handful of ropes and said, “Young Biao Sister should right one’s name on the pouch first then throw it up the tree. If it was hung up, it means that the Old Man of the Moon had head you and would arrange a good marriage.” After finishing, she then handed over another large bundle of ropes, “Youngest Biao Sister should take more. The more one takes, the chances of it hanging up is higher when one throw them up together.”

Shen Miao was somewhat speechlessly watching Luo Tan eagerly writing her name on the remaining pouches. However a female would most propably believed it this and hope that it was a good omen. Luo Xue Yan als said, “Jiao Jiao should write on some and hang it up. Don’t be afraid.”

Shen Miao looked pickly over the basket of red ropes after dropping the matter with Luo Xue Yan and Luo Tan, she could only pick one for herself and wrote her name in the pouch.

Luo Tan saw it and said, “Youngest Biao Sister, you took too little. How can a single piece be hang up? Take a few more, these are enough.”

Luo Xue Yan also said, “Jiao Jiao, one is not enough.”

Shen Miao felt that she did not even want to throw up any and moreover at this moment her thoughts were all occupied with those words that the priest said, so how would she have the heart to do this? Thus she just threw it casually.

“Just one piece cannot be hung. It is better for you to… Oh, how did it hang up there?” Luo Tan cried out in surprise.

    • I was between crying, holding my breath and using my incapable brain to decipher all this divination and omens. But the thing I’m most curious about is who is this person that owed her a lot? It cannot be the scum. It cannot be our little prince since they barely met. Then who? And why did he owe her a lot? Is he perhaps also a reincarnator or something? O.o

      • The only other probable reincarnator should be XJX himself. He knows too much about what is happening to not have reincarnated himself. He also changed his own fate from the last timeline. However, it doesn’t make sense that he’s the one that requested her rebirth, because if he did, he wouldn’t be so confused at why Shen Miao seems to know every calamity that approaches her.

        In any case, we now know that Shen Miao reincarnated because someone else requested it.

        We now also have this Diviner and the Grand Master + disciple. It seems that the Grand Master knows that XJX is destined for great things, but needs the aid of a “fierce dragon”. He waits for the “person” to come, and whoever that may be, should be the fierce dragon that will help XJX. Instead, Shen Miao is intercepted by the Diviner, who tells Shen Miao that she needs the help of someone to regain her fate (if not XJX, then who?). At this point, the Grand Master knows Shen Miao isn’t going to show up where he is, but he says there’s no harm because the Diviner set her on the right path.

      • I think you understood it a little bit wrongly…the fierce dragon is XJX himself. Dragon is a symbol of an emperor. Remember once he told SM jokingly in the past after listening her speaking in a dream like an empress that she might still be able to become an empress if she likes it.
        XJX is a prince so he has definitely the opportunity to be an emperor, if his brother is abdicated or die without a crown prince.
        And he is indeed fierce so, according to SM divination she could help this fierce dragon to tame his tendency to be evil/ruthless….
        On the other hand.. the power of this fierce dragon (XJX) is also what SM could borrow to help her overcoming her calamity.

      • He could still be a reborn character but with no memories for some reason.
        Because he is the only character in this stoey who has done her wrong but without being evil by nature.
        It was said that many things SM had learnt from him to win FXY’s heart…it just unfortunately didn’t work.
        And PL was definitely not evil despite doing her wrong, otherwise SM wouldn’t have approach him to work for her. She didn’t even spare an eunuch but she trusted him enough to plant him beside FXY so he is definitely a trustable confidant. He was just not her confidant in the past life but FXY’s, that was the problem.

Because in Shen Miao’s past life she had done a lot of things for this person to reach where he was, but the last thing she got from this person was unimaginable. If I remembered it Pei Lang was the one who told Shen Miao to accepted her fate( she became a hostage in Qin country after her return she got 3 ft white silk from Fu Xiu Yi to kill herself in cold palace) moreover, Pei Lang was also had part in her children’s tragedies. In total, Pei Lang was the one who responsible for all her and her children lives’ tragedies

      • I didn’t remember clearly, I only remembered that Pei Lang promised something to Shen Miao before she made the decision to be the hostage. If I want to know better, I have to reread the story, but I’m too lazy to do so. Actually, I can’t think of other person rather than him because first, FXY would never done something like wishing or compensating others as his personality was so cruel; second, XJX was already dead in her past life before her worse tragedies started, and Shen miao hadn’t done anything for him to owe her so there’s no reason for XJX to done something as compensation.

Though him going berserk is truly amusing especially seeing how he ate lots of vinegar only due to small things.They are just really meant to be. And! They’re absolutely perfect for each other, wouldn’t you agree? We even have evidence thru the divinations the two priests have said. (XJX lending SM power to survive the calamity and SM being the one to tame XJX’s “evil” tendencies.) This power couple is just very awe-inspiring! 😍 I love them!!! 💕

      • WHO IS IT!! I’m dying to know who!!! I wanna ask but it might spoil the others. Wait…is it a guy? SOMEONE WHO OWES HER A LOT. FXY—that a**hole is the first one that comes into my mind. I was also thinking of her children…maybe they asked the gods to give happiness to their mom who protected them or that doesn’t feels like it’s them with the whole someone who owes her a lot. XJX!!! Of her past life? Could they have met without her knowing and he’s been watching with keen interest…or nah.

        When it comes to all owing her it’s really that fxy maybe the country feel into ruins after Empress Shen Miao’s death. And he later on realize that he let go of the one person he shouldn’t? Regrets being with a fake white lotus? Aaaaargh I’m so curious.

Of course, some would be so obvious like the forged letter but maybe, now the taoist monk could be sent by him since he knows SM mention empress… Furthermore, the Great Monk even said met with fated person, doesn’t this tell XJX sent the taoist monk to divine SM fortune in his favor…

    I should technically be sleeping, cause (whyyy) got to wake up early even tho it's Saturday, but who cares \o/

    And instead of answers I feel like what I have are many more questions. Like:

    Different monks? Who was that taoist? What about it being fate? Does he know her? Who sent him and why?

    Biggest question:
    When he said someone who owed her requested the divinations… Does he means it literally like why he was there to make these divinations, or in the same sense she asked, someone that owed her wished/asked for her to have a second chance?

    And this.. This would be soooo mysterious. Someone from past life?
    FXY owed her. A lot. A frigging real lot, everything he amounted to was because of her. But I don't think this is it. Thought it'd be hella ironic he wished her best luck on her next life (cause he wasn't giving a damn/moving one straw for her) and woooa! Wish granted. She gets another life to redo this and get all he owed to her xDD

    • How to do a magic trick, 2 options:

      First and foremost, be XJX
      Second, wait in ambush for when our little empress goes to the marriage temple to throw some ropes.
      Third, SM is confused. Take advantage that it hurt itself in confusion and isn’t paying attention (And neither is everyone else, because “omg, how could you throw it like that? And what about the rest of the basket?”) to

      Option 1) Catch that damn thing and climb the tree like a ninja (you are XJX, remember?) then frigging slam dunk that flag- I mean, rope, like a boss on the highest branch that you know you are. (All the while invisible like the good ninja you are)

      Or

      Option 2) hung that previously prepared rope with SM’s name written on her own calligraphy that you very talentedly imitated on the branch you have been waiting in ambush this whole time and that coincidently is the highest one, because of course no other branch is high enough for you (you are XJX, remember), jump down, grab SM’s actual rope in the air and then vanish out of the thin air, all without actually being seen like the good ninja you are.

      There. Job done.
      And you didn’t even need to catch other 246523773 ropes.
      Don’t you want to thank wifey for being such a good wifey and knowing you’d catch them all anyway and sparing you the trouble? 🙂

  29. That divination made me a little sad. I mean the priest said that with Shen Miao’s ability she would not be able to prevent the approaching calamity. After all she has experienced in her past life, all the strategies and tricks in her bag, after all that hard work and it is STILL not enough? Makes me wonder how she will react if she sees XJX again after her return? Or if XJX will know everything before if Cong Yang starts acting it all out in front of XJX 🙂

    • Maybe she can’t simply because this involves marriage? If not Xie Jing Xing, the only ones that can match her status are the princes of the different countries. Let’s not even talk of the nightmare that is marriage with FXY. Huang Fu Hao & his family are sadists that will only torture her.

      FXY’s brothers will likely get eliminated in the battle for the throne. Like FXY, they’ll also likely see the Shen family as a hot potato to kill when they’re established.

    • Well she is still a weak girl anyhow…she can’t just tell her patriotic family to rebel nor tell them to retire for no reason.
      Furthermore, even retiring request would still need to be granted by the emperor.
      He wouldn’t allow it while there are enemies lurking around (Liang and Qin), Shen army is now the last big army in the country, Xie general has lost his power. Insisting to retire would get them punished all the same for going against the monarch. Her position as a Di daughter of a general makes her sitting on a hot couch as well and got every prince of MQ lusting her family’s power.
      She can’t just reject it if a decree has been bestowed to her, right?
      But rebelling without enough support would put her family into jeopardy too.
      Additionally…all this while it has been proved that she was nearly finished if only XJX didn’t come saving her.
      He rescued her from disaster two times already.
      In Both kidnapping her family army couldn’t find her and even if they finally were able to find her, it wouldn’t have been without damage…
      But it was XJX’s effort and network able to help her getting away unscathedly…because the princess RX helped her for the sake of XJX.
      So XJX is indeed her saviour

Después de todo son dos aves del mismo plumaje, que tal que una vez que Jiao Jiao murió y que las dos primas idiotas creyeron haber ganado el amor de su vida, fueron desechadas al final y Shen Dong Ling terminó por ser la emperatriz. En cuanto a la concubina Mei, ¿no sería la misma SDL?

    2: ¿Por qué un monje budista y un Taoista esperaban a Jiao Jiao?, por lo visto el monje budista no aparecerá, porque apareció el taoísta antes truncando el encuentro con Jiao Jiao. ¿Aparecerá posteriormente el monje Budista?

  38. Thanks for the bonus chapter 🙂 the destiny of SM being an empress is inevitable in both lives, as such the Taoist divination denotes. There are two roads she can choose, either walk the road of her previous life which leads to her doom or might as be with someone who soars like a dragon in purple clad, which likely the ML, who’s the author is very bias with.

    I’m just wondering, the fake Phoenix overthrown the real one on the first divination, which leads to her death, but it also hinted in the second divination that SM will encounter the fake Phoenix, however, if she chose to be with the purple dragon she won’t failed to thrash the fake bitch? So mei furen will still appear and wreck havoc? Ugh!!! Can we kill her before she appears in the story?

    Anyways keep up the good work guys. I really love the story so much. Patiently waiting for the engament arc…

      I agree because I want to kill the fake phoenix. But..

      I disagree because
      1. I want to witness the battle between Shen Miao (real Phoenix) and Consot Mei (Fake Phoenix). The excitement I am feeling right now is how the two will meet and will they draw there sword as a sign to start a war.
      2. When Fu Xiu Yi will try to make a move against Shen Miao or he will fall in love to her. There is a lot of possibilities that our male villain will made an evil plan to Shen Miao.
      3. Xie Jing Xing (Purple Dragon), when he will proposed a marriage to Shen Miao? and when he will admit his admiration to her. But, I still want to know how he will stop all the other furen and gongzi flying around to Shen Miao. “that’s must be exciting”.

      I always anticipate every week updates and feel grateful when there is a bonus chapter.

The monk is well known for being a mystic that even emperors look for him and that is understood. But the weird one is that Taoist priest. I mean, he just showed up somewhere right? Is it a divine being went to look for Shen Miao? Oh my…can’t wait to see what will happen next and how Xie Jingxing is planning to get Shen Miao to marry him.       Coz shen miao also doesnt know the real ending of xjx in the past, and some of xjx’s plan changes agter he met shen miao. And i also sure that this chapter is the key why shen miao can reincarnate in first place. I wonder cjx reaction after he learn bout shen miao divination.. so much secret here ..😂😂😂
