Chapter 150: Forcing a Marriage (Part 1)

Although the matter of Princess Ming An had set off an uproar among the people in the Ding capital, the Judicial Bureau was unable to investigate the end of it. Emperor Wen Hui would get angry every three to five days and a number of officials were embroiled in it, but it seemed to have become an unresolved case. In addition, even though the position of a Minister of Land was not one of the most important officials in court, the other officials would often inevitable have contact with him. Thus if one were in-laws with the Wang family, in the future there would be quite an amount of help in one’s career.

The help in one’s career was naturally viewed by Shen Wan’s eyes and in Chen Rou Qiu’s view, Wang Bi was the eldest son of the Wang family, and currently there was no TongFang or concubines in his courtyard and in a lucky coincidence, Shen Yue was one filled with a thick scholarly air. If she was able to capture Wang Bi’s heart when she was married over, she would be able stand firm in the Wang family in the future. And by giving birth to a son and a daughter, she would be able to sit back and relax in this lifetime.

The marriage was personally set by Chen Rou Qiu with the Wang family and the eight characters cards were exchanged. When Shen Yue knew of the matter, she naturally kicked up a fuss. But the normally gentle Chen Rou Qiu seemed to have ironed her heart this time to get her married, and the always doting Shen Wan did not need to Shen Yue’s request at all. Shen Yue believed that if one day Shen Miao wanted to marry to Fu Xiu Yi, Shen Xin and wife would never obstruct like Chen Rou Qiu and Shen Wan.

Moreover Shen Miao previously also admired Fu Xiu Yi and if one day Shen Miao’s previous love was rekindled, with Shen Xin’s current comeback and with power in his hands, would Fu Xiu Yi reject it? Besides Shen Miao was already not the idiot that was laughed by the entire capital two years ago.

Seeing Shen Dong Ling’s appearance, Shen Yue had an impulse to pour out what was on her mind and she smiled bitterly, “What does it got to do with me if he is a good person or not? After all he is not that person in my heart.”

Shen Dong Ling thought for a while before she understood something in a flash, “Could it be that… There is someone in Second Older Sister’s heart?”

“So what if there is? So what if there is not?” Shen Yue smiled bitterly, “Who let me be born in the Shen family, where I have no power to choose my future husband. Father and Mother only care about career prospects and do not even care about how I think. Sometimes one feels that it is better off being dead.”

Shen Dong Ling jumped in shock and quickly waved her hands, “Second Older Sister must not think like this. Since Shen Qing and Shen Miao could exchange, then why could not she?

Shen Yue’s heart started beating furiously and an idea that had long formed came to mind. Her gaze turned towards Shen Dong Ling, who was beside her.

As for the person of choice… Was not there a ready-made one in front?

Shen Dong Ling was a Shu daughter. Shen Dong Ling felt that the Wang family’s gentleman was very good. Shen Dong Ling’s character was weak and she was easy to deceive… No one is more suitable than Shen Dong Ling.

Shen Dong Ling bit her lips as she looked at her. Shen Yue’s hair was loose and her eyes were hazy with tears. She indeed was forced to such a desperate state, thus she had no choice but to forcefully nod her head, “I agree. Second Older Sister, get up first.”

Shen Yue’s eyes brightened before she threw herself up to hug Shen Dong Ling and hurriedly thank her continuously, as if she was grateful to the bones. However with her back facing Shen Dong Ling’s face, she revealed a pleased smile.

“It is just that Second Older Sister, it is better to take one’s time to consider about this matter.” Shen Dong Ling said, “After all, changing the marriage is not a small matter and once the matter comes to light, it would not be good for us at all. Third Shu and Third Shen will oversee it, it has to be discussed in detail.”

Shen Yue released Shen Dong Ling and said excitedly, “That is natural.” She looked at Shen Dong Ling and held her hands, “Rest assured Third Younger Sister, since you did it for me, I will definitely explain it clearly that it was me who forced you. I will not let Father or Mother blame you and will not let you be implicated.”

Shen Dong Ling smiled, “En. I trust Second Older Sister.”

No matter how stupid you are, since you came from a scholarly family, where did one’s brain go huh? Is it already dead or what?       • You see, SD is very similar to the scum man called FXY. She may look harmless and stuff but their ambitions are set too high. If she married that dude who might be on supporting of the prince, chances are, she’ll do anything she can to kill two birds with one stone even if she has to take down our empress for the sake of her own future.

    • I however think Shen Dong Ling will be able to achieve much more as long as she doesn’t cross-path with Shen Miao (which she seems much aware of). She had never scheme for others to befell misfortune like FXY instead she is likes SM, using others trick to her own benefits. When there is no one playing any trick she passed her day likes usual. She is one of those character that I anticipate much for twist or revelation for each appearance (the other is the said Mei furen)

      • Yep. She just wants to save herself and her mother and then live without fear for the rest of her life. She didn’t make things hard for Shen Miao in the first life, and she didn’t cross Shen Miao in the second life either. No, she’s a pragmatic with a good head on her shoulders (so far).

        Really, it’s not so bad if the novel have a second smart female that’s not so arrogant about their place in the world that they have to make enemies left and right.

      • That’s as far as Shen Dong Ling wants. She isn’t dumb and she doesn’t have insane ambitions. She wants a good life for her mother and herself. That’s it.

        She didn’t even trick Shen Yue. Marrying Wang Bi is something that Shen Yue does NOT want to do anyway. She is just helping her out while helping herself out at the same time.

    • I think SD is on our empress’ side. I had re-read this story and can somewhat see that SD is just going with the flow with every thing SM does. SD also helped SM in some instances in the past.

      its like their giving a mutual help and gaining mutual benefits.

      and once SD got married to a decent family, she won’t be able to be one of the love rival for SM or pursue to be an empress.

    • When did she scheme? If you were to reread the novel properly, you will find the subtle hints of goodwill that Shen Dong Lin throws at Shen Miao. SDL already told her mother that SM is not what she seems and it seems as though SDL has made up her mind to scheme other people while staying out of SM’s path.

      • It’s not that she is showing goodwill towards SM. She’s just smart enough to realize who SM really is and know to stay out of SM’s way. She did at first tried to use SM when her mother to SM to gain favor and when her mother reports back on what had happened, that’s when she realized and told her mother to stay away.

        So now, she and SM just have this tacit understanding of “If you don’t stand in my way, I won’t stand in yours.”

      • You’re right but that is what makes her so rare. I hardly see characters who are not necessarily good people but can differentiate which people they need to distance themselves from while reaping the benefits for themselves as well.

  7. WOW I am impressed by Dong long ! She is the second smart female character in this novel, she saved her mother and knew when to retreat and above she didn’t fall in love with ML and fought with our empress for anything ! And now she got herself a good husband ! *claps* well done!

    Shen Dong Ling is the real white lotus here. Shen Yue can't even be compared to a piece of the dead cell that falls from her (SDL) skin *sighs* She was played so hard that she's even helping SDL count the money after she sold her. I just hope that SDL will get a good ending and that she's smart enough not to go against our empress.

    • Nope, more than getting rid of Shen Yue, she actually just wants to secure a good marriage and future since being the daughter of a concubine would severely limit her prospects (plus the added fact that her existence is almost unknown to the rest of the capital as she was barely allowed to leave her courtyard).

Actually, her parents found her a good match. He have a stable job, noble family, and most important thing, he didn’t have any girl at his home.   28. Maybe Shen Yue is smart but in a ‘book smart’ kind of way. In life, I can’t even begin to describe her thinking process but I guess her attitude is also to blame. Being spoiled and conceited as she is, she has become blind to many things–including the consequences of her stupidity and recklessness. Her greed also knows no bounds! Her status and that of Fu Xiu Yi’s are heavens apart!

Or more like “I want this prince too!” But I bet in Shen Dong Ling’s mind once Shen Yue mentioned the words ‘exchange marriage’ you could hear the sound of a trap snapping loud and tight.around Shen Yue. Though ‘forcing a marriage’ Could thatperhaps be that the husband only realizes the exchange after the first night? Since that would be really forcing (somehow like they tried to force Chu Chu onto Shen Qui)

  40. Shen Yue in actuality has low IQ and only rely on her mother’s teaching on how to act and look like a scholar. She has high ambition to hook a prince (aka Prince Ding) and she didn’t even thought of her own standing in the society. Her father is only a 3rd rank official and doesn’t have much contribution in the court and only rely on bribing and pawning. unlike Shen Miao who is a daughter of a 1st rank official and a general that is highly look upon by the whole country of Ming Qi and can be labeled as a princess. (the reason why It is so easy for SM to gain a tittle if it requred…………. like marrying a prince of another country~~~~ *look at Prince Rui*)

    and! It would be really hard for Shen Yue to marry in to Ding Wang Fu as a Wang Fei but can only be a concubine or at least Ce Fei. and I can’t wait for her to be able to enter Ding Wang Fu and be suppressed by Mei Furen! Being a White Lotus and wary of SM…. after visiting the 3rd day after marriage? not even my shadow would be seen around Shen Fu. She has some past offenses and some in this life, but nothing SN would pursue if she stays low.

  46. oh my gosh!!!! SY! Have your scholarly brain got worst over the past years? WB is very good to take as a husband. A very rare kind of husband. Has a stable job and position and very much pure(NO concubines.). I pity you.

    And SDL is not a scheming person who would give risk to her ownself or to her mother. She couldn’t careless about his father and the Shen family. She only want to live like with nothing weighing her mother and herself down. From what I understood along the way, she does not scheme that is nothing to do with her. SDL knows what to get and how to stop when too much. SDL is already aware not to mess or scheme against of Empress SM. Her status as a concubines daughter is a bit like a hassle for her. And from what I understand her persona, if a problem rise with her mother that needs risk she would gladly walk towards it. Like empress SM. Smart, lazy and cruel.
    (THis is just an opinion. Don’t take it to the heart. I might be wrong. So please just ignore this.)

    • Actually I like the way you think this point about SDL. and…. SY is really an idiot. She kept on relying with her reputation of having a scholarly image to get a big man to marry. (Laughcry) She even thought that FXY will fall in love with her if he ever lay his eyes on her…. *rolls on the floor* I can’t wait for her to suffer from her own wish…
