Chapter 88: Soft-hearted (Part 1)

Just now, Shen Miao seemed to have cried.

That hairpin was very small and one would not see it if one did not pay attention. Shen Miao’s action was ruthless and did not hesitate when she attacked, so the hairpin was buried in the arm of her capturer. Xie Jing Xing’s eyes darkened and with the wave of a hand, Shen Miao was thrown to the front of the stone wall again.

Xie Jing Xing hand was holding onto Shen Miao’s delicate neck, it seemed that with just a little more force, her neck could be easily broken. His voice was slightly deep and there was an undetectable anger, “Worthy to be General residence’s people. Learnt completely how to mount a sneak attack.”

“Anyone?” Mo Qing was surprised for a moment, “Is not Young Lady the only one inside? Did Young Lady saw someone inside?”

“No.” Shen Miao smiled gently and said, “Just asking casually.” But in her heart she put Xie Jing Xing’s ability higher a level again.

“After staying for a long time, why is Eldest Brother not here? Let us go and search for Eldest Brother.” Shen Miao said.

Mo Qing was somewhat puzzled. He did not know why did Shen Miao changed her mind in a moment, as she had agreed to wait for Shen Qiu in the tea room and now she did not want to. But he naturally would not refute Shen Miao’s standpoint so he complied and followed Shen Miao out.

When Shen Miao left, she looked back at the closed doors of the tearoom, not knowing if Xie Jing Xing and Gao Yang were still there. Shen Qiu felt very wronged but Shen Miao was totally unaware of it.

At the other end, there was someone who was coming to Xie Jing Xing’s aid for justice.

Alright, after much reading and pondering I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t shen miao who thought about his hands looking good but it was from third person perspective of the author as she loves to fawn over his looks the moment he shows up regardless of shen miao being there or not. And also, this novel is mostly in third person perspective except it occasionally shows shen miao’s thoughts. In any case, this was supposed to be a dangerous scene where her life is in danger but…….how did it turn into such a romantic scene? (Romantic considering it’s coming from THIS guy Jing Xing!)

    Gosh! I laughed so hard after reading this. I’m guessing he will start developing some subtle feelings from this point perhaps? Just when she looked frail and fragile with tears the next moment…….stab! Hahahaha! Nice one empress shen. But I suddenly became sad at the thought of Wan Yu. Poor miao has to bear the pain of losing her children as if they never existed and she can’t even share her feelings with anyone either, and she has lost her childhood innocence too or else she could be happily spoiled by her parents and brother.

    Anyway i never dissapointed with xjx action toward shen mio. It looks natural because he doesn’t know what SM plan, it can be bad or good for him. But thank you for letting her alive, you will get the big gift for that 😉

  5. Ah.. a womans tears is a lethal weapon to everyone who has a soft spot for it but one must make sure that the person your using it on is not an ice block that wont melt. Today’s chapter, I dont know if I should laugh or be sad for the events just now. She once again thought of Wan Yu and Fu Chen back in the days and her sacrifices to avenge them and unknowingly cried. If only this girl can be given a big hug and be by her side, how wonderful would that be? Ahhh, if only XJX falls for her sooner. >~<

    I wonder who is that person running towards our ml? Shen Qing? Oh gosh, if its her then ill kick her out until she have a miscarriage -_-

(of course that place was a secret place) But she find the duo and they choose to kill her but when Xie want to kill her , she cry and he let release her. Better say the last part read what say animelover08

    I don’t think that SM was crying intentionally for the sake of saving herself, it’s just an excuse she made for doing a “disgraceful method” to cover the painful memory she remembered.
    i got teary-eyed when I was reading the part where SM remembered her children’s smiling faces.
    And the line “There was no weakness in her eyes or expression as her tears fell woodenly, but it make one’s heart sour. As if before this happened, one had experienced the pain that no ordinary people had before, and that sorrow was as if one had reached the dead end.” made it even worse! Knowing she had experienced the worst and terrible pain one could imagine 💔😭

    But I’m also glad to know that a few waterworks is enough to make the little marquis go soft 😂😂

  9. Wowww haha! I thought of so many ways that she might use to get out, and I even briefly considered crying but I didn’t actually think that would be how she’d get out of the predicament. I’m a little disappointed, but it was cute seeing him feel all awkward. Thanks for the chapter!

  12. Its kind of understandable why XJX attacked SM because currently, they don’t have much of a relationship and are very wary of each other, so him wanting to silence the person who caught him doing shady stuff is pretty normal.

    Plus I wouldn’t drop this unless threatened because it too good

    I’m a bit saddened that XJX hasn’t fully realized the greatness of SM, only feeling she is a tad smart than the rest. Well at least we got really microscopic developments in the romance department, XJX annoyingly getting moved with tears not meant for him…

I guess it is a pivotal point for ML’s relationship with SM, he makes a decision to spare her life…cant wait to see how the romance will develop, both of them are quite cold and blood thirsty.

  32. I can actually picture SM’s expression when she thought of her children. How painful must it be. I love that no matter what happens, she never loses track of her goal and the people whom she doing all of it for. Shen Miao deserves happiness too.

    PS – i could not control the intrigue of how SM gets out of that situation and read this chapter using google translate. And i really regret that decision because even though i understood what happens but the essence was completely missing. Never gonna do that again.

  42. I’m a silent reader but I just had to comment. I love and I mean really love this novel. I love our main characters. They are just so wonderfully and realistically developed.

    P.S. Did he just give himself away? Cuz he mentioned the Chen brothers and how Shen Miao couldn’t use him like she used them. I mean we the readers know his relationship with the little shop but our empress doesn’t. Just wondering.
    Also can’t wait for them to become a couple. Like I’m legit dying of impatience.

  46. It is funny that she thinks she has successfully used the ‘crying like a child’ method to get her way. If she only knew that if she had truly used this kind of tears intentionally she would be dead already. Only because of her uncanny cold expression with tears and no fear was he moved. He caught a glimpse of the life she lived before without knowing what he saw.
