Please pardon me for this chapter as my abilities to translate the description and names of the gifts itself is bad. Most the time I do not know what I am translating and how it looks like. At one point, I was scolding XJX for giving too much gifts. LOL
Chapter 184: Betrothal Gifts (Part 1)

Every time when Shen Qiu saw Shen Miao, he would have a conscience-stricken expression and these days he would often gift Shen Miao some rare treasures. He only said, “Older Brother do not have any abilities and can only find these playthings for you.”
Shen Miao was rather speechless with the Shen family’s mood. She naturally knew that things were not that bad but she could not tell the Shen family so. If Shen Xin knew that Xie Jing Xing’s real reason, one feared that there would even more trouble.
In Ming Qi she has to think about the Shen family but on the contrary, it was not convenient for her to take action but once she was in Great Liang, it would likely be much easier to do many things by using Xie Jing Xing’s name.

Translator note: When the author refers to a position, I will be using Prince Consort. When it is referring to a person, like there, I will use Wang Fei instead.

However there was no time to be surprised as Tie Yi had continued to sing. The third page was daily necessities, “Six boxes of boxwood combs. Two boxes of bamboo brushes. One red sandalwood table. Sandalwood cub for gurgling, perfumed soap, satin canopy, glass bean hanging screen, eight mandarin duck tasseled cushions…”
Everyone in the Shen family, “…”
Tie Yi continued onto the fourth page, “One coat of silver rate, grey rat, sheepskin, pearl feathered each and twelve different cotton wadded coat. Thirty two sets of robes of silk, satin and cotton. Forty pairs of Jiang silk socks…”
Luo Xue Yan could not help but asked, “This… This Young Brother, could it be that you have taken the wrong list of betrothal gifts? This… This is not right.”

The seventh page that he sang was all on the works of the four scholarly arts.
The eighth page that he sang was for servants and exclusive guards.
The ninth page was on horses and carriages.
The tenth page…
Everyone in the Shen family, “…”
The more Tie Yi sang, the smoother it was. He sang with one long breath that was even better than those older students in the theater in Xiao Chun City. For this Prince Rui to treat Shen Miao this meticulously, why did it looked like… It was really sincere and committed to Shen Miao?
How could it be possible? Shen Miao did not see Prince Rui for more than a few times.

Hang on, Luo Ling! Don’t break! It just wasn’t meant to be in this life! Man, this poor guy is suffering so terribly, the heart aches.
That said, I love to see the purple vinegar cloud deity roll out the red carpet for his empress. Also lol at Tie Yi randomly showing up. Double lol for discovering his aptitude at song. While he’s the most well-trusted of his retainers, he probably still felt terribly out of place. Nonetheless, XJX probably showed his sincerety in choosing him.
… And why do I get the nagging feeling that the Great Liang Emperor has no clue about any of this? That’ll be one hell of a reunion.

I really hope though that XJX will be able to rescue Pei Lang. That would be a better betrothal gift then those treasures. After all he really helped Shen Miao and is quite loyal to her.

En la cultura occidental (Europa de edad media hasta el siglo XIX la dote se daba a la familia de ella como compensación. Pero la familia de ella también debía dar una generosa dote que servía para comenzar la vida matrimonial. A lot of time, betrothal gifts are just to “show off” to other people especially to show other families how “rich” the future son in law is by giving those gifts to his future wife. We still have this betrothal gifts in modern time too. I believe in modern time, the bride’s family is supposed to take stuffs like clothing, shoes, pillows, fruits, money & they usually only take 1/2 of those that are being gifted & then return the rest to the groom’s family. If the bride’s family takes all of the gifts (especially the money), they will be seen as greedy people. Lol… But since this is in ancient time & plus the fact that the groom is a very rich Prince, I think the Shen’s family will keep all of those gifts. In the ancient time, since most marriages are arranged marriages, the more betrothal gifts the groom’s give to the bride’s family, shows how important the groom sees his future bride will be. If Prince Rui only gives very little gifts to Shen Miao, it’ll show that he doesn’t care about Shen Miao. But in this case, Prince Rui does way over the top for his betrothal gifts to his future Wang Fei. I hope this helps!
