After sending me back to the residence, Wei Tan returned to the barracks again.
I was used to it and would calmly express care and concern at the doors by asking him to take care. Upon returning to the room, I quickly wrote a letter to inform Li Shang that Wei Jue would be going on an expedition soon. After handing the letter over to Ah Yuan, I thought for a while and brought out a jade bracelet from the adornment box.
My apologies for posting it late…

The evening breeze brought some smoke from the kitchens and the glow of the sunset reduced the light but made it exceptionally beautiful. I only felt that this beauty in front of me was familiar yet distant.
“You and I are not as old as bald and toothless, so why would one be unable to recognise you.” She whispered after a long time.

Yu Ying turned over and said, “Don’t care about them. What remains unseen is deemed to be clean.”
I immediately understood. This was the custom in ChangAn. The nobles would feast and turn semi-intoxicated and would like to watch seductive dancing to find amusement. In order to please everyone, such a show of extravagance was indispensable, thus Lord Lu had arranged for such enjoyment.

When Wei Jue was recalled, the Heavenly Son personally went to the city gates to welcome him. Although it was majestic, it was just going through the motions. The real rewards came a few days later.
It was said that during court, a decree drafted by Wei Jue was stamped with the Emperor’s jade seal. On it was a densely packed list of Generals, starting from Wei Jue, who had made meritorious contributions. As Wei Jue could no longer be bestowed with any more rewards, one could not hand the Imperial Seat to him, thus there was only gold and silver as reward under his name. Wei Tan was bestowed as the Marquis of HuaiYang, Wei Zhao was bestowed as the Marquis of ShanYang. The rest of the densely packed names listed numerous unheard titles such as Marquis Ting, Marquis Xiang and General titles.

Wei Furen should think that I was an obedient daughter-in-law since I was already waiting outside the doors like usual when she got up the next day.
Wei Jue had stayed over at the concubine’s, Madam Zhang’s, courtyard last night thus there was no need for any evasion.

Wei Tan had eaten in the barracks and went directly to bathe upon his return to the courtyard.
I had bathed and one’s hair was still rather moist. As nothing was happening in the room, I instructed Ah Yuan to move the lamp to the front of the mirror and sat before it, untied my hair and started wiping it with a dry towel.
