    • She was supposed to marry Prince Yu (because she was stupid and to avoid the princes to acquire the Shen’s military power by giving it to Prince Yu = Imperial family), but instead she ran to the doors of FXY which is much worse than PY

  17. Empress Shen Miao in this arc reminds me of a technique from Robert Greene’s The Art of Seduction: insinuation.

    She’s only making comments that SEEM benign. But she’s deftly planting ideas in everyone’s head. No one can resist her ideas if she made it look like a conclusion they could think of themselves. She whispers suggestively and this generation’s Emperor thinks her suggestions are a good idea… Not knowing that the end of her trap will lead to his Imperial family’s demise.

    I can’t wait to read Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power and 33 Strategies of War – if only to understand the Empress SM’s plans :))

    • The Emperor is definitely not simple. He actually murdered all but one useless brother to become sit on the throne. Seeing that he secretly warned Prince Yu when Yu was (still!) eyeing SM, perhaps he knew who Yu was really addressing.

      Still, to the Imperial family, SM deployed a trap that best be left alone. If they break out and reveal who Yu was really trying to marry, then everyone would know that a member of the imperial family committed one of the sins that is absolutely unacceptable, which also brings the sinner’s libido-control into questioning. Since the sinner would be known as an Imperial family member, naturally the rest of the family would be implicated…leading to a lot more questioning of qualities. How clever of SM.
