Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage: Chapter 65 (Part 2)

Chapter 65: No Loss (Part 2)

“Alright.” Shen Miao’s lips hooked, “I would like to ask, that day Second Shen was staying in the next door to Eldest Sister’s room and was extremely close. If anything were to happen, how would Second Shen not able to hear it?”

Ren Wan Yun was stunned.

“If Eldest Sister had resisted, there was bound to be noises. Seeing that Eldest Sister’s body was filled with injuries that day, it seemed that she had struggled for help, then why did Second Shen was unable to hear all this even being so close? Could it be that Second Shen heard it but was unable to come out to take a look as one was just too tired?”

“You…” Ren Wan Yun opened her mouth and wanted to refute as her palms were filled with cold sweat.

“Of course, perhaps Second Shen did not hear the calls for help. Why? Naturally because Eldest Sister did not called for help. Why did Eldest Sister not called for help? Was it because she knew that evildoer?”

“You are spouting nonsense!” At this moment Ren Wan Yun could no longer tolerate and interrupted Shen Miao’s words sharply.

Shen Gui and Shen Wan were after all men and their thoughts were not as meticulous as females and did not think much about the matters in the inner courtyards. But Chen Rou Qiu and Ren Wan Yun almost immediately understood. The former looked towards Shen Miao with eyes filled with surprise, while the latter’s eyes filled with fear.

Shen Miao’s words were actually scary. Yes, that day Ren Wan Yun’s and Shen Qing’s rooms were that close to one another and if Shen Qing were to call for help, how could one not hear it and if one heard it, then why did one did not go and take a look. Could it be that Ren Wan Yun did it on purpose? Ren Wan Yun naturally would not deliberately harm her own daughter but the person who was supposed to be staying there was Shen Miao. Ren Wan Yun had not reason to harm her own daughter but it was not impossible for her to harm her niece. For Shen Miao to say it out straightforwardly, Ren Wan Yun’s secret plans would not be able to remain covered up in front of others.

And she also envisioned another possibility. That Shen Qing did not cry for help at all and why was that so? To suffer that much abuse and yet not cry for help, it could be intentional. Why would it be intentional? This matter, if one were to make it a smaller issue, it would be humiliated by an evildoer, if one were to make it a big issue, perhaps one would even spread out that Shen Qing deliberately committed the crime of engaging in an illicit relationship with others!

This world was already especially difficult for females and it was always better to be safe than sorry. When rumours starts, it would be difficult to put it out.

Shen Miao gently smiled, “Second Shen, I find that there are many doubts in the matter. Since Second Shu is also reasonable and uphold justice, it would be better to send me to the Inspector-General government office to hold an open trial. I would definitely inform the Daren what I know in its entirety and let Daren make a final decision and maybe that evildoer would also be known.”

“No!” Ren Wan Yun and Shen Gui opened their mouths together.

Ren Wan Yun said no as she naturally was afraid that the issue would be complicated. If Shen Miao were to speak the matter out, then discerning people would be able to pick up the secret. There were many large families in the Ding capital and it was still alright if the matter was hidden well, but if the rumours spread out then its was not impossible that one would be able to see the truth of her scheme of harming her niece. Moreover, once the truth comes out, what would be the result of Shen Qing’s innocence? When these rumours spread out, Shen Qing would need to hang herself with a bout of white silk.

However, Shen Gui said no because of a directly opposite thought than Ren Wan Yun’s. He was only afraid that the matter would implicate Prince Yu of the First Rank. Originally the matter was mucked up and Shen Miao’s and Shen Qing’s identity were mixed up. When Prince Yu gets to know of the matter, he would definitely be furious and if he was implicated in the matter and affected by troubles, Shen Gui was afraid that his official route would be particularly difficult.

As such, the married couple who were previously menacing, both stopped Shen Miao’s proposal in unison.

“Then what would Second Shu do?” Shen Miao’s eyes swept to the thick long whip that was in Shen Gui’s hands and casually asked, “Still want to use the family rod?”

The people in the room quietened for the moment as Shen Yue stared incredulous at Shen Miao.

Even Shen Yue could see that she was threatening!

As if to reflect the surprise in everyone’s heart, Shen Miao softly laughed, “If Second Shu was to use the family’s rod then there is no way out, but I have always had a stubborn temper and if I were to carry that evildoer’s crime that does not belong to me, when Father returns, then I would definitely think of a way to report to the government office.”

She was implying that if Shen Gui hit her today, in the future when Shen Xin returned, she would certainly complain and at that time would also urge Shen Xin to report to the government office. One say it was to report the evildoer but who would know who exactly she was reporting against at the end?

“Second Shu, are you bringing the rod out or not? If it is to be used, then please do it quicker.” There was a light smile in Shen Miao’s clear eyes and there was also a slight ridicule, “Since there are so many people around, I will not be able to escape from it.”

Practically lumping the entire crowd of people in Rong Jing Tang as bandit-like characters, who wanted to see Shen Miao suffer the beating.

Shen Gui never had thought that he would be threatened by his own niece today, after all he had been in the official circle for a long time and had the double-face ability to cope with any matter like fish in water. It was not that he had not thought about any way out but it was that Shen Miao did not gave him an opportunity to respond at all from the beginning. It was Shen Miao who was speaking in the beginning and as it went along, her words were as sharp as a spearhead and were so aggressive that one could not retreat at all.

A trace of surprise flashed in Shen Wan’s eyes. This Second Older Brother of his was a wily old fox in the official circles that even those political opponents had never pushed him to such an awkward position. Moreover the person that pushed him to such a situation was just a fourteen year old young female. The First household… Was really that indestructible? Shen Wan’s bright eyes turned cloudy.

“You…” Shen Gui’s face was becoming somewhat red. Today he did and said everything in a fit of anger as in his heart, Shen Miao was after all a niece that was easy to con and weak in character. Even if she was to beaten and the rod was being used, in the future with some coaxing, she would not dare to speak of today’s matter. Who knew that Shen Miao would change drastically and he had no idea that she had become a thorn in his head. She not only to not submit herself meekly to adversity but still attacked him and made him unable to step down from the stage.

If he was not afraid of Shen Xin, Shen Gui really could not wait to kill Shen Miao now.

The Old Shen Furen who was sitting in the hall quietly saw that her son was forced into such a situation, she looked at Shen Miao with a trace of anger in her eyes. After suppressing it down, she said deeply, “Enough!”

The hall fell into silence again, Shen Gui sighed in relief and everyone looked towards Old Shen Furen.

Old Shen Furen was ignorant of the Court’s affairs and the outside world but was a good player in the inner courtyard. Shen Miao’s words to both Shen Gui and his wife made her raise her eyebrows and she could not help it. The more Shen Miao showed a wise side, the more her heart felt malicious. It was because Shen Miao now held Shen Xin’s reputation and could threaten Shen Gui’s matters. So for the time being, Old Shen Furen dare not act rashly.

She coldly said, “Fifth girl, what your Second Shu said was rational. Taking into consideration your young age, the rod can be forgotten but since Eldest girl has suffered in your stead, you will go and kneel in the ancestral hall to atone for the crime against your Eldest Sister. As of today, you are confined and go copy Buddhist scriptures while kneeling in the ancestral hall. Whenever Eldest girl recover, it would be when you are released.”

That meant to kept Shen Miao lock up permanently.

Shen Yue was somewhat disappointed when she heard this. She still wanted to see Shen Miao beaten so much that she would not be able to get out of bed or perhaps that she be expelled from the family clan. Who knew it was just a painless and superficial confinement and when Shen Xin came back in a couple of months, Shen Miao’s confinement would be lifted and at that time everything would be like before.

Ren Wan Yun was also somewhat dissatisfied but Shen Miao’s words were so shocking that she now dare not act rashly. At this moment her heart was in a mess and she was unable to think of a better method. Even though she had complaints with Old Shen Furen’s words, she knew that this was an interim tactic and so she could only simmer and not say anything.

“Oh.” Shen Miao’s voice was slightly dragged out and her words were clearly gentle but one did not know why when others hear it, there were a hundred of different feelings to it. She said, “Understood. I will ‘atone’ for Older Sister in front of Buddha.”

Now every word that Shen Miao said all seemed to have another meaning. Ren Wan Yun could not help but feel a layer of goosebumps all over her. She did not know what to say so she could only cry.

“Alright, alright,” Old Shen Furen was rather intolerable today and could not stop Shen Miao and thus felt a stone blocking her heart. Looking at Ren Wan Yun crying, she felt more frustrated in her heart and said, “Second Son, bring your Furen out. What with all the crying in Rong Jing Tang! All of you leave! Fifth Lady, you now go to the ancestral hall to kneel and do not even bother to take dinner today!”

Everyone retreated and Shen Miao did not bother too much about the matter. She left Rong Jing Tang and headed towards the West courtyard.

Shen Wan said heavily, “Fifth Lady has really grown up.”

“Yes.” Chen Rou Qiu’s lips pulled, “This time Fifth Lady can be considered a real eye-opener.”

“Mother…” Shen Yue softly spoke, “Fifth Younger Sister is somewhat scary.” At Wo Long Temple her placid expression and ability to let Shen Qing suffer a loss and yet get out of it unharmed made Shen Yue feel a trace of fear. She did not know since when did that stupid and easy to talk to Tangmei acquire such an ability?

“What is Yue-er scared of?” Shen Wan pat Shen Yue’s head. It was clearly a loving look but his words were however gloomy, “She is just a little girl who does not know how high the skies are and would sooner or later pay the price.”

*****

Shen Miao really did as what Old Shen Furen had arranged and entered the ancestral hall of the Shen family.

The Shen family was of a military lineage and the ancestors that were worshiped were all ancestry of successive dynasties. These ancestors fought on horseback for the Shen family and laid out such a prosperous family property. Unfortunately upon reaching this generation, the Shen family coincidentally was not far from falling.

Old General Shen’s generation was actually thriving initially. Unfortunately in one of the wars, several brothers of the Shen family were killed and only Old General Shen survived. Old General Shen had three sons and only one took the military route. Now the Shen residence inherited the original glory on the surface but other than the formidable Great General Shen Xin, it was only an out and out literary family which was ironic.

“Is Young Lady numb from the kneeling?” Gu Yu asked.

Jing Zhe and Gu Yu also followed into the ancestral hall. Shen Miao was worried that Ren Wan Yun would take action behind her back, even though she had deliberately draw Jing Zhe and Gu Yu away so that they would escape the fate of being killed. But in the huge Shen residence, each one had their own ulterior motives so she kept them by her side. No matter how long Ren Wan Yun’s hands were, she would not dare to do anything in front of her.

“Even it is not numbness, the humidity is also heavy here.” Jing Zhe complained as she looked at the small window, “Now it is raining and the ground is wet. What would happen if one were to caught an illness from kneeling? Moreover, they really have nothing better to do. What does this got to do with Young Lady, this is exactly a case of the guilty party filing the suit first. Wait till Master is back, see if they still dare…”

“You should say a few words less.” Gu Yu blamed, “If one were to be found out, Young Lady would be at a disadvantage.”

Shen Miao smiled and did not care about it.

Jing Zhe thought for a while and asked again, “However it is also out of anyone’s expectations. Today so many of them went to Rong Jing Tang, but there was not anyone by Young Lady’s side and even then she could leave unscathed. Although it is also bad to kneel at the ancestral hall, as compared to what this servant has thought might happen, it is already a lot better.”

Before she entered Rong Jing Tang to be condemned, Shen Miao did not bring any maids in. Thus Shen Miao’s maids did not know what happened inside.

“Young Lady must have convince the entire roomful of people.” Gu Yu said admiringly, “To face so many people and not even be afraid, Young lady now has more of Master’s style.”

So many people? Shen Miao laughed in her heart. It was only a small little Shen residence and it was nothing more than some jumping clowns that could not be seen in public. At that time when Fu Xiu Yi wanted to change the Crown Prince, the officials stood at Mei Furen’s and Fu Chen’s side. Her Fu Ming was under house arrest and she wore the formal attire of an Empress and faced the officials from the throne and argued with those officials weeping blood with every word.

How meagre could the power of one person be? Just like she was obviously the most distinguished lady in the world and married to the world’s most distinguished man, but she could not even protect what her son deserved. No one stood by her side and she could not retreat as she had people to protect.

It was because at that time she was unable to protect her precious people that now she would use more intense means. Cruel? Ruthless? Hypocritical? Cunning? That did not matter, as long as the knife was pointed at the enemy and the one who fell was the opponent, even if the process was cruel, she would shoulder all the sins, what would it matter?

She closed her eyes. The ancestors’ memorial tablets were in front of her as Shen Miao softly contemplated, “Ancestors, if your spirits are still here, please grant me the sharpest of arrows and swiftest of horses to kill the enemies with my hands.”

After chanting it and opening her eyes, she saw Jing Zhe looking at her while blinking her eyes. She took a bag of snacks from her arms and smiled, “Young Lady has gone hungry for so long and cannot go without eating. This servant has some snacks here for Young Lady to fill up the stomach.”

It was not really because of Old Shen Furen’s order that she really stopped eating. She reached for the paper bag and when she opened it, she could not help but be momentarily surprised, “This is…”

“This was what this servant found in Young Lady’s room in Wo Long temple.” Jing Zhe scratched her head and said, “At that time, Young Lady gave the snacks to this servant. After this servant tried a piece, this one had never tasted such a great tasting snack like this and could not bear to eat it. After returning to the residence and head to the ancestral hall with Young Lady, this one did not have time to bring food from outside and is only left with this.”

Shen Miao looked at that small and intricate snack. That was the one that Xie Jing Xing left after he talked with her. Thinking of it, it was like she could see the handsome face of that youth in the curtain of rain and that mysterious identity of his.

Xie Jing Xing… Shen Miao muttered to herself irresolutely, just what kind of person was he.

  1. Wonder how she’s going to get out of the Ancestral Hall now. Would be weird if she just sat there obediently. Not to mention, even if Shen Qing recovered, they’d just lie and say she’s not to coop her up in there.

This punishment the Old Lady gave her still made zero sense to me.This old lady is so bonkers she has no right to run the Household just because she’s the only surviving lady of the older generation. Urgh so annoying. She acts so smart and privileged.

Oh man, I just hope Shen Xin and his wife return already. And put those lesser Households in their places. Does he ever find out the extent of their manipulations against his daughter?

    • That is why the ancient usually put emphasis on the main wife family background, noble and all. As well as excellent first born son. Because they will one day become the patriarch or matriarch of their own household. Old Shen Furen just got lucky that she outlived the Master and First Wife. But a songstress will always had a songstress brain capacity. Truly revolting and useless lol.

  2. I still can’t believe that Ren -Second Shen was able to escape it, I mean as the elder of the group isn’t she supposed to be responsible for anything that will happened at the trip? But now they’re all putting the blame to a kid, like seriously? XD

    • Well because they’re all in that together, lol
If only Shen Miao has an elder that back her up, even just one, Ren Wan Yun will not go unscathed. That’s why, it’s such a shame that at least her mother is not by her side, as I believe she would be capable to placing the other households in its place. Why does she have to leave Shen Miao :((((
Thank you for the new chapter!

  3. Am I the only one kinda disappointed by shen xin and his wife? You would think they would take better care of their daughter by maybe appointing good people to stay by her side and teach her….

    • No, you are not alone there. I find it infuriating. I deem it the author’s tool/excuse to get them way out of the way so the MC can do her thing.
You know, how in every YA the parents are a)dead b)missing c)don’t or can’t know for N reasons, so the kids get free to do whatever they want (and happen whatever may happen to them) so the story can happen.

Because in no way all explanations given up till now make sense to me.

Didn’t her mother stay with her when she was really small? Why didn’t she bring her with them when she was older? Isn’t she also a militar lineage daughter? Her mom is general I think, or at least comes from militar lineage. Shouldn’t she be teaching her not only the actual subject but moral (and militar) values etc?

Even if for some reason it was so.
Apparently they came home from time to time, did they actually TAKE A LOOK at their daughter? Talk to her?

All of this “oh, she was so so and so (way of dressing, behaviour, not wanting to study etc) because the 2nd and 3rd family influenced her to be/didn’t teach/didn’t make her do so”. How come parents, after interacting with their children wouldn’t know? “Child, who told you so? Where did you learn that? How are your grades?”

You get home, ok, you didn’t know, but you see you child wearing a a burlap sack, or dunno, looking like Carmen Miranda. Realize she is basicaly falling her grades, that kids in grades before know more than her, and she still is throwing a tantrum because she doesn’t want to study.
What do you do? “Ahahaha, good child” and pat her on the head?
Are you mad? (Acually, one scene or the other, they should be mad anyway XD)
      Do you even care?
Or are you spoiling her rotten?
What brings back to > do you even care?

And in this time, the conduct of a daughter could condem the whole family. That’s why truly “good” families educated even the shu children. Nobody outside cared if they were the children of concubines, and suposedly not to be seen. They were of the family. Do something stupid to the wrong ppl, whole family was down.

(=slight someone, even if by accident, of the imperial family and see what happens).

That’s why. It wasn’t because they were good of heart, or had morals. It was simply look wrong to the right person, and everyone with the same surname would suffer, sometimes even the next generations. There goes yours, and the family’s future. and that was, if in the worst cases, the whole line wasn’t eradicated first.

      But then…
Maybe things are more lax in this world.
The fact that her family didn’t properly educate her (even more so the di daughter of the 1rst family) speaks tons about the stupidity of them, even if they did so, so they could profit/take advantage. (but then again, perhaps things were more relaxed).

And about her parents… I can only consider it the author’s method to get them out of the way.

Because nothing, to me, explains much less justifies all of this, lest “they don’t give a s***” kind of scenario. Yes. Even with all of that of them being naïve, way too trusting, “it’s family”, no. It does not justify. Did they ever talk to her?
Didn’t anyone, any maid write them/tell what is happening?
      Really.
It’s to the level where asking “Do they even know their daughter?” is not much.

      • Sorry. I’m raging. This is really infuriating to me. Had to get some of it out of the system.
Children neglect. And of this degree…
It’s perplexing at best. This whole deal of them being too trusting. It baffles me to no end.

So much that I have to consider it the author’s way to deal with story things/writing problems just to cope.

      • You are putting you world view into this, which its a mistake. This is another world with their rules and customs.
SM had to stay to get an education, proper one and make connections so in the future she can find a nice husband.
The past SM thought her family was looking out for her, now she knows they didnt and were rotten to the core and only wanted to see her fall.

In the end, they did things in a covert way and SM past actions made matters worse. Just wait till we know about her parents, atm I cant say a thing because I havent read to that point.

      • sorry but i think luna is right in this case. First of all, why did the mother left with the father ? I mean, in ancient china, I doubt women were allowed in the army, so what the hell is she doing there at the first place ? She just gave birth, but she left her new born baby with some dubious strangers instead of staying in the capital to raise her daughter.
Sorry, but i think her daughter needed her more than the husband. For what reasons did the father bring her along ? It’s just so weird, and i felt it right after reading the chapter talking about that.
There were a lot of rules for these women in ancient time. The first wife of prominent nobles could hardly go out so what the author did wasn’t logical.
I am not a specialist of china’s civilization so i could be wrong (in this case please correct me) but I think the parents aren’t responsible.

      • Sorry, but this is a book a made up story. This is not real life. If her parents where there than the story would be over after 5 chapters. Plus she had no revenge for that family like she has now.

      • @maartje
That’s why I’m saying this, in my point of view, is the author’s way to get the parents out of the way so everything (the good -wait, what good?- the bad, and the revenge) can happen.

I’m considering it a writing tool, the author’s way to deal with it.

Because logically, in-world, in-story, this doesn’t make sense to me. It’s not reasonable. But frankly, I don’t know if there’s a reasonable way to do it at all!
What else could the author do to mantain the scenario “ok, they love her, it’s not negligence, but I need them out of the way!” in a logical way?
I do not know, and won’t judge.
That’s the way the author found, and so be it.

But for my peace of mind, I have to consider this as an writing tool (even a handwave) employed, something meta. It is so because it needed to be so, so the story could happen.
I can’t consider it from a in-world/in-story perspective else I’ll rage, and get frustrated cause it’s still impossible/incongruent to me.
        (I hope I’m making sense)

        @tnyhy
Thanks for reminding me this is its own world, with its own rules, and not so much based/ripped off some time in history. It does calms me down to some extent, and I’ll try not to evaluate/go though this world with a more historical concept.

But still I don’t know, ok, I can see this about proper education and making contacts, but there still too many incongruencies and blank spaces. I don’t know. I still feel like this is still improbable, sorta handwavish (will speak about it bellow)

        @Jesse
        And thanks Jesse! For real.
It’s really good to know I’m not alone in this. ❤
I'm also not an expert in chinese history and ancient civilizations, and this story leaves me confused sometimes. Like the thing with the school.
For boys? Yes, surely there should have one (there were oficials) but girls?
And an almost co-ed at that?
        I think one shouldn't exist?

What is a throwback to what tnyhy said. It's its own world. But still, I don't know, I think it's good to have some knowledge (even if from other novels) it makes for interesting comparitions (I'll just have to remember not to use it a base knowledge)
This all just makes me realize of how little we know about their world/society…

But yeah! I think they said her mom also comes from a militar lineage, and is a general, and that's why she was in the war, but…
Really? I mean, if they are of a militar line, where women also learn it, and even become generals, why didn't they pass this knowledge to their daughter?

Isn't she also of militar lineage! Shouldn't she be raised in it?
Learning tactics, military texts, go/chess, perhaps even some kind of martial arts? In the tourney I believe they said some daughters of militar lineage knew.

Not to mention a militar code, sense of honor and etc.

As I said above, ok, I can see about going to a proper school. I don't remember exactly, but from which age did they go to school? from 10~16? (was it 3 grades, more than a year in ea?). If so, what about before 10 (or 8, or wtv)? Why didn't her mother raise/teach her?

evenmoreso, what I said in 1rst post still stands.
You get home, you see your kid completely ignorant/spoiled/misbehaving, not knowing what others younger than her already know, not studying/throwing tantrums etc.

How come you just don't sorta kidnap her asap and bring her with you so you can properly educate her? When you yourself are of militar upbringing?
something like "spoiled child! you want to have it easy? Then let us see you how do you fare in the army!". even if she had to grow up in a militar camp, you know, this makes much more sense to me XD

Think of all parents of militar career enroiling their children in a militar school/boot camp/army/something so they learn discipline.
It happens, you know, it actually happens XD

Idk, I'm just going to see her parents as being way too trusting, over-indulgent and loving SM so much they let her go completely rotten.
Don't know. I'm trying to find ways to conciliate all the disparities.

I guess, for now, I'll just settle with: "Just smile and wave, girls, just smile and wave." 😀

      • All I can say, read further. Get to know Shen Miao’s mother: her family background before marrying into Shen household, her experience living as Shen Xin’s wife, her experience with people of nobler and prestigious events, and her inability to say no to monarch. The title says of military lineage. Now, only Shen Xin is the one carrying the military lineage, can’t you all try to think whether her mother is also of military lineage or not.
That is why like TNYHY said, don’t put too much of your own world view into this.

They didn’t know the true face of the family, just like the past Shen Miao that only learn of other households true face before her death. They didn’t neglect SM. If they truly neglect her, they won’t put her under the care of their relatives and just gives SM some reliable maids and be done. They did visit her once every year, but SM was blinded by the relatives and so do them at the time, as the relatives acts and wear masks so well. Just like the blind SM of the past, even if her mother asked “Are you well?”, “Were you bullied by your TangJie?”, “Did your ShenShen forced you on anything?”, what do you expect the blind SM of the past would have answered?

Even if her mother is of military lineage, it is not necessarily that Shen Miao will have the same compassion like her about it. She was entrusted to Gui Momo since baby. You should read further, how her mother getting ridiculed by other madam over her lack of proper manners and ethiquettes. So since they are permanently living in the heart of the kingdom, she of course wants SM to receive proper education for: her future, her spouse, her social life. She doesn’t wants what happened to her to happen to her daughter. She can’t refused the monarch edict of guarding the border, that is why she entrusted her to her sisters-in-law. It is not that when SM already big enough, she didn’t thought of taking her to the battlefield, but have you ponder what the blind SM of the past thought of battlefield? She already live comfortably for years, do you think she wants to go to war? Of course if they asked her now, she will comply (after the revenge is served), but before that, the naive her, will she? All in all, if the relatives didn’t put a kind facade, I do believe even if SM is a baby, her family will took her to the battlefield. A battlefield is much safer than the wolves’ dens. But too bad, the relatives did, and SM and her family believe them to be more safer sanctuary than the battlefield camp.

    • It is disappointing but basically the despite being an experienced general the father is too naive and by the books. He understands battle but not the evil within people’s heart … apparently. They did a good job with the personal maids but screwed up with the wet nurse. Their “opponents” are also good at deception.

  5. The outcome was quite disappointing lol
I was expecting more of it. And I’m not satisfied that SG and RWY was slightly unscathed. I was looking forward to read the scene where they fall to ruin and will never recover XD
I was waiting for that massive “CHECKMATE” and I’m excited to read how SM will deal with the 3rd household especially that dumb SY and I hope she’ll experience something worse than SQ lol ‘imma so evil XD’
Anyways thank for the chapter! 😀

    • Let’s just think of it as Shen Miao giving them a taste of what she can do and how she’s not the same anymore. Like instilling fear in them, have them shiver in fear and be angry so much that they’ll cough out blood and when the times comes in front everyone, with a bigger audience and stuff she can probably just wrap them all up and the fall of those scheming and uncaring relatives of hers will be so much greater and satisfying. 😋 *laughsevilly*

  7. Thanks for the chapter!

There were things I wanted to comment on the previous ones but didn’t have time. Will try to get back to them some time (hopefully).

For this one I’ll just comment: yeeeees ! think of XJX! curiosity is the first step to interest, and then it’s a small step to add romantic before interest! XDD

And now that you nothing to do but plan revenge, erhem, I mean, pray to Budha, for awhile, please spare some more thoughts for the lad! :3

    • I wonder when can I start singing Can you Feel the Love Tonight surreptitiously, and out of tune, in the background.

Probably will go through I Won’t Say I’m in Love first though 😐

  8. Thank you for the update. I am truly speechless on how shameless are her relatives and how that Aunt of her got away with the attempt of trying to harmed her then I suppose what do you expect when they are also the ones who are investigating and trying to uphold their so called justice against SM.

  9. She’s so cool. Indeed. Only a few words but it still left people stunned.
Shen Miao, I shall pray that you will be granted the sharpest of arrows & the swiftest of horses to kill the enemies. So that you would not suffer the second time.

  11. God. This Shen family is really up there with the Gu Family from EEWC, So infuriating! Then again, The more wicked they are , the more satisfying it is when our empress gives them the punishment they deserve.
    Thanks for the chapter.

If you a bad person among good people, yes you are a villain. But when everyone want to step on your head and the cheat, trheat, and kill could be used to save one self and the loved ones, become malicious one is more than okay..

  13. Lol, now I see how SM can escape being beat by her relatives even tho she has no power and no one at her side atm. I love how she completely pushed her arrogant uncle and aunt from the second household into a bind lol! I wonder what she will do next….

Thank you for the chapter!!! 💖💖💖

  14. thanks for the chapter! Good , i just hope they fall from grace sooner rather than later and im actually surprised that shen miao can still love her parents.. i mean it’s obvious shen xin neglects her too much, i just cant understand why he is so far but didnt even leave a person to protect her (that carries weight not just maids as they can be changed), he doesnt even makes sure to check twice her situation. How can he not know the schemes of the backyard ? he is a great general even if he isn’t in politics given his age and experience it isn’t difficult to see that step mother of his doesnt favor him and his family, and the shu brothers want him out of the picture, even if they were to act in front of him he should still know the countless conflicts there are between shu and di and more so when the one alive is only the stepmother , ok let’s just say he is reallyyy busy no time to think about his daugther…
Where is her mother? she followed shen xin and left shen miao alone when she was a little girl! i admire her love for her husband but more so i detest her lack of care for her daughter. How can a mother leave her daughter alone to fend for herself? As a female and a furen how can she be in the dark of all those awful schemes and delude herself the shu brothers would treat her daughter good? this is the only thing i dislike about this novel i just dont understand…

    • Thanks for supporting!! The author actually left a lot of things out on what happened in SM past lifetime. But when she later put it down, one can read that the parents really love SM a lot (personally I felt they love her too much and spoil her too much… Which also made her that way in her past lifetime). Lets be patient and see what the author has install for us

    • Actually, if you look at it this way it makes sense. In the past, Shen miao used to think her relatives loved and pampered her. They probably coaxed her so that she wouldn’t complain to her daddy. Besides, their double faced personality wasn’t this apparent when shen miao was still timid. But now that she is aggressive, their pretences have fallen and their true colors have surfaced, which was previously undetectable to shen miao and her parents. i mean, it was mentioned in a previous chapter (forgot which one) that in her past life, shen miao didn’t like her parents too much cuz they always left her behind and loved her relatives who seemed to pamper her. So if shen xin returned and talked to her daughter in the past, she probably wouldn’t complain about he relatives who she saw as saints, and those bastards would just add fuel to her words. So no way Shen xin would know what they were actually up to.
As for why her mum left her, i heard it is explained in a future chapter, so we would know the reason. I hope it helped.

the dude XJX is a reincarnator from modern times and is a general *wink
and he freakin introduced twinkies and snickers here haha

it would be so fun if he tried to explain what a phone was to SM while theyre dating. as the story stivks to SM’s POV
