Cai Lin wanted to scold someone but when he saw that the other person was the heir of Ping Nan Bo, Su Ming Feng, he swallowed the words that was at the edge of his tongue. Su Ming Feng was Xie Jing Xing’s close friend, who would dare to mess with him?

“Eldest Brother,” Su Ming Lang tugged the edge of Su Ming Feng’s clothes, “That older sister is very pretty. You should marry her as your wife.”

Su Ming Feng’s lips stiffen. Fortunately Su Ming Lang’s voice was very soft and no one heard it. He lean over slightly and asked, “Does Second Younger Brother know Young Lady Shen?”

“I do not know.” Su Ming Lang played with his fingers innocently.

After that, Su Ming Feng did not speak anymore.

Shen Miao walked behind Ren Wan Yun’s entourage and to the female area of the banquet.

Generally at the female side of the banquet the Furens and Ladies would sit randomly with their familiar and close friends and this was the same with the young ladies. Those young ladies saw that Shen Miao was dressed differently today and became somewhat jealous. They wanted to see her making a fool of herself and purposely isolated her but they saw Shen Miao sitting down by herself and did not appear to be miserable. There were chessboards and leaf cards (Translator: Not sure what game is this) that were on the table so that the young ladies would not feel bored. She thought for a little before picking the chess pieces from the chess basket and started to play against herself.

She makes no sense of any of the four scholarly arts. Previously because of the Second and Third Household deliberate actions to increase her hate for them, after she got married to Fu Xiu Yi, she had no time to learn. Chen Rou Qiu’s gaze landed on Shen Qing, who was talking to Yi Pei Lan. Ren Wan Yun seemed to be urgently settling Shen Miao’s marriage before Shen Xin’s return. Why? Was it because Shen Qing was also in love with Prince Ding? And want to remove the biggest threat for Shen Qing?

      • I felt bad for her. She was all set to live her life right and quiet, and that guy ruins it by falling in love with her. Can’t live with him, can’t bury your scheming family in the backyard and blame it on the huns.

      • I don’t know how far you read before you dropped it, but I can’t drop it now. So much rage and heartbreak, I need closure! lol I’ll be seriously ticked if she ends up with Qilang though. SERIOUSLY ticked. I want to castrate him. Sun Yan, you’re my last hope! *deep breath* Sorry lol but I just read it all to current chapter this past week. It’s still fresh in my mind.

  5. Her parents are still alive! How can they just try to marry her off before the parents’ come back! Not to mention they’re the first house! Unbelievable!

    I’m all for revenge but I hope Shen Moi gets to have a loving marriage and that her family comes back for that kind of happiness in this life too.

      • Yeah, I hope that old lady gets put in her place! I feel like SM situation should he similar to Huo Qu Bing’s in Ballad of the Desert. Her father is a general and she’s the di daughter. You’d imagine the Emperor would have some thoughts in who she’s marrying.

      • I think the whole Prince Ding betrayal thing was a plan they came up with when she unexpectedly managed to get her father to push for the marriage.

        And the Emperor would much rather that she marries poorly, because Chinese Emperors have a long history of getting into power and then promptly undermining all the people who supported them in the first place.

        Though, to be fair, the reason why they have that history is because many of the Emperors who -didn’t- weaken the strong families that had supported them in the first place tended to end up being puppeted or supplanted by those same families. Those kind of betrayals run very, very deep in Imperial Chinese nobility. Much moreso than in the old European Monarchies, probably due to the more complicated and involved politics of the Imperial Chinese court in comparison to the more fractious and ‘independent’ European Monarchies.
        Though of course there were plenty of European Monarchs who turned on their former supporters after getting into power, but it was somewhat less common and less ‘accepted’ than in the Imperial Chinese court.

    Having a table all to yourself? That’s pretty neat! I would love to have an ability to own a space for myself. So, I kinda know how SM feel: not particularly caring if she was being isolated by the furens and the daughters or what people would think about her being ignored—the males, particularly. I mean, hey! More space for her to be more comfortable and feel at peace in her gnawing environment of wolves in sheeps’ clothings.

    And those things (being comfortable and at ease) are priceless moments that a noble person should really appreciate in life. With all the schemes and tribulations surrounding the imperial city, there’s no way one would find such time to relax and enjoy simple leisures.

    I like how she’s very strategic in bringing FXY down by breaking his foundation one by one. This is so unlike and refreshing from the other Chinese novels I’ve read so far. Usually, females would strike the main male antagonist already or have already began her revenge directly. And later on deal with his subordinates. But with SM, I can feel how depth her anger and hatred towards this prince that she would save him for the last laugh. She would cripple him, torture him and break him until he couldn’t even get the chance to reincarnate for the next lifetime. So PL, may the favor be with you and please decide who’s the winning opponent before declaring your alliance.

    The second and third households are quite audacious! Most especially the Old Shen Furen. This relatives have turned blind and deaf. Added that they have gotten thicker in face value, I don’t know if there’s so much of a saving grace for them.

  21. Due to SM position and power at that time, it is actually very little she can do to ensure her and her family’s survival. SM is not a super assassin or anything but with her hindsight of things to come. Lucky she got the ML to assist her and ML actually told her father about it, about SM burden and sacrifice for her family while the whole family is not aware about it.

      By right they can’t, since only parents can do that but since her parents are not there, they ‘justify’ it by saying that since they are SM seniors and also the seniors in the Shen family, they could arrange it for her. And if everything is arranged and execute it, by the time they come back, rice has been cooked. There is no return and she would have been defiled and maybe dead already… They are just so *GRRRRRR*

      By right if parents died, the brother (oldest brother if there are more than 1) can then decide for the sister’s marriage 🙂

    I can’t believe her family can be that cruel. Do they not care about how other people view them??? Like it’s pretty obvious what your intentions are when you marry the freaking DI DAUGHTER to an old wastrel. And you do it when her parents are away! I think it’s pretty infuriating that such cold hearted people can exist. It just really goes to show how polygamy really is NOT the answer to peaceful family relationships….lol.

    Although I super admire Shen Miao in her ability to be a loner and not care about other people, a part of me does wish she had actual good friends. That is what I always miss in novels set in the ancient times – I feel like it is very rare to find true and good friendships that aren’t just based on rank and family honor.

    I wonder how she plans to prevent the teacher from standing out. Even if she challenges everyone and never loses, I don’t think that would prevent others from challenging the teacher, nor would it hide his talents and skills. It’s also too late to arrange for him to not be at the venue or to leave it before the challenge portion starts unless a lucky opportunity presents itself. Honestly, she should have planned this better.
